News you might be missing

While all the media is enthralled with the ongoing Bush Manly Love Fest, it might be worth noting that there have been a few other things happening that aren't quite getting the same attention as Purple Heart Band-Aids.

F'r instance:

Yet another federal terrorism conviction vacated -- this time in Detroit, most notably because of prosecutor misconduct. (Note that this is just the latest in a string of failures by Ashcroft's DOJ in the terrorism-prosecution arena.) Fables of the reconstruction wonders why they waited until Friday; but on a week like this, there's no need. The story will be buried anyway.

Well, just in case anyone forgot that we actually also have a war going on in Iraq, there's just the latest update from Today in Iraq:
Bring 'em on: One US soldier killed, two wounded by roadside bomb near Mosul.

Bring 'em on: Iraqi education official assassinated in Kirkuk.

Bring 'em on: US Army convoy ambushed near Balad.

Bring 'em on: Four Iraqis killed, seven wounded in mortar attack near Samarra.

Bring 'em on: Three Iraqi policemen wounded in ambush near Kirkuk.

Bring 'em on: Four Iraqis killed, five wounded in US airstrike near Samarra. [Ed. note: The dead included two children and a woman.]

Bring 'em on: Fighting reported near Fallujah.

Bring 'em on: US troops under heavy mortar attack near Baquba.

Bring 'em on: Insurgent attacks near Basra stop oil exports.

Bring 'em on: Twelve Nepalese hostages executed by insurgents.

Bring 'em on: US patrol ambushed near Mosul.

When, exactly, are we going to see the DNC ads featuring "Bring it on" and "Mission accomplished"?
